The law of comfort rules this home away from home

Kingsfort Country House bears a long history of justice and severity but this cottage is, these days, all about serenity. The building that now houses the Kingsfort Country House once belonged to a clergyman and magistrate and... More About Kingsfort Country House was used to apply the letter of the law. But the original cells for holding miscreants have given way to a much more harmonious environment. Kingsfort is a truly peaceful and intimate place to stay, with rooms in the converted barns overlooking the courtyard and garden. The building still retains many original features and has been refurbished with warmth and comfort in mind. Decorated in a traditional Irish style, the bedrooms emanate a distinctive ambience and each have their own individual style. Families are encouraged and two of the rooms can be joined up to create a genuine home away from home. Co-owner Corine Ledanois also brought many subtle French influences to bear, including the table d'hote menu and an extensive wine list. The surrounding region boasts its share of history and natural beauty. Parke's Castle, situated on the shores of Lough Gill, is an early 17th century manor house while Carrowmore, near Sligo, is the largest megalithic burial ground in Europe. There is the Glencar Waterfall, which inspired poet W.B. Yeats, and Strandhill, a coastal village with miles of golden sandy beaches and unforgettable views of Atlantic sunsets.
